FAQ's

What are the steps of the translation process?

The translation team, including the project manager, divides the work into different phases: translation, editing, proofreading, and desktop publishing. The translation and editing is usually done by the main translator and the proofreading is done by another translator with the same or better qualifications. When they are finished, the work is sent to the desktop publishing specialist for formatting or work on graphics.

How quickly can you turn around my document?

A translator can translate an average of 2,000 English words per day. This is about six 8.5" x 11" (or A4) pages of text. This time frame varies according to the complexity and legibility of the document and the language pair being translated. For large documents with tight deadlines, the project is completed by a team of translators.

What are normal payment terms?

Usually, we request that invoices be paid no later than 30 days after the invoice date. Other payments terms are available depending on the size of the project. Unpaid invoices will be subject to a 10% service charge.

What are your rates?

Fees for translation projects are based on the document word count, subject matter complexity, and deadline. Other factors that determine rates are the target language, time frame, volume amount, and special formatting and typesetting requirements. We will provide you a fixed quote that is valid for two weeks after we submit it to you.

Can you keep the same format/layout as the original?

In most cases, yes. However, please note that for projects involving languages with different characters (e.g. English and Japanese), the format or layout may have to change a little.

Do you use translators who are native speakers?

Yes. All of our translators are professionals with an average of 10 years experience, degrees in Translation Studies or their equivalent, and are proactive in taking continuing education courses to improve their skills.

Can you provide a certified translation for legal documents?

In most cases, yes. It depends on the language. Please contact us with specific details.

Do you provide DTP services, and do you process files in graphic formats?

In most cases, yes. We work with files such as .pdf, .po, .ppt, .png, and .jpeg. Please note that projects in locked content like .pdfs may need more time due to the additional formatting work involved.

Do I pay more for urgent projects?

Yes, urgent projects require more resources. We will provide you with a detailed quote upon request. If we cannot perform the job within the requested timeframe, we will provide you with the earliest delivery time.

What methods of payment do you accept?

You can pay directly by bank transfer, check, or PayPal.

Payments may also be made with credit cards, but there is a 3% transaction fee added to the final price. Therefore, we do not encourage these types of payments.

Do you provide foreign-language proofreading services?

Yes, we do. Such projects usually involve proofreading translations done in-house by clients or by other firms/translators. Usually, the rates are approximately 50% of a translation.

However, if the quality of your translation is low, as is likely with some automatic translation services or if the text was translated by a non-native or non-professional translator the rate may be more.

I have a text with many repetitions … does this affect the price?

If the project has text that recurs multiple times without any changes, then we should be able to negotiate a lower price.

Do you make transcripts?

Yes, we can create transcriptions in any language you require.

Do I need to provide a glossary or other type of reference material?

If possible. The glossary or other reference material will help reduce translation time as well as ensure consistency between the document we are translating and your previously translated documents.
